New York Man Claims Lottery Jackpot of $24M Days Before Ticket Due to Expire
A man has claimed a winning New York Lottery Jackpot 2 DAYS before the ticket was about to expire! The time was running out on the $24.1m Jackpot prize! The winner finally stepped forward!
Jimmie Smith who is from East Orange came across his winning ticket when checking the pockets of his favorite shirt!
Remarkably, the retired security guard found the lucky ticket he had just seen discussed on television.
Jimmime who is a retired security guard, found the ticket along with a load of others that had been just sitting in his jacket pocket.
“I ended up with a stack — a pile of tickets, including the one they were talking about on the news.”
Mr Smith who is a father of two and has twelve grandchildren went on:
“I stood there for a minute thinking, ‘Do I see what I think I see”
Mr Smith actually came forward on the 23rd May, but the New York officials decided to hold the announcement. The reason for this was down to operational security. A claim this late and for this amount could have been very dubious.
Smith told lottery officials he’s been buying tickets in New Jersey and New York since the 1960s, but has never been in a rush to see if they’re winners.
Mr Smith has been buying tickets in New York and New Jersey all the way since the 60’s. But he had never really been in any rush to find out the tickets results:
“I always told myself, ‘I’ll check them when I have the time,”
Instead of taking one lump payment, he has decided to take the annuity. This means that he will receive the payments over 26 years in laddered payment rather than a lower lump sum.
